News from the blacklist

Since I am running my blacklist to prevent spam on WordPress Blogs, many days have passed and I was curious again of what happened behind the scenes and I did some statistics.

  • IPs listed: 12005
  • IPs removed: 1
  • Users: 234

As you can see, quite a bunch of addresses was reported. But only one requested removal. Why just one? What happens? Are people just too lazy to read?

I got a theory that could fit in here: I think that the spammers are using root servers or other webhosts that run insecure web applications and got exploited.

As servers aren’t really used to comment on blogs, I think it’s pretty obvious that nobody requests removal of the addresses…
