I don’t know how many people out there are having two or more soundcards in their systems – but I surely know, I do. As I am using the KDE sound daemon arts, my primary soundcard is occupied. As this card isn’t great I am using it for the usual system sounds.
For listening to some music, I prefer my Creative Labs SoundBlaster Audigy ZS 2. This card is managed via ALSA, but not by arts – Using XMMS I had no problem adressing this card. But since xmms isn’t supported by Gentoo I am looking for alternatives… without success

Try amarok, it kicks ass and can address specific soundcards.
