My current server, an
old ancient IBM x345 does its job since more than 10 years now, working hard every day for serving this website, doing mail and a few other things. But by now it’s getting very old and I have to think of replacing it with something new. Some other reasons for doing so are noise, power consumption and the lack of 64bit – and did I already mention noise?
As an IT Administrator I got my requirements and wishes – so I came across a nice Dell PowerEdge R610, looked at various Fujitsu-Siemens machines, IBM and a couple of others until I stumbled upon Thomas Krenn AG who I did see at the LinuxDay in Berlin, offering some super silent machines which should be able to do the job pretty well as the Westmere CPUs look pretty promising.
