Vista impressions

It was time for me to have a look at Vista, as it is already set free and seen in the wild on new PCs. So I installed it on my workstation to see what this new miracle can do. The install went smooth and there were not many undetected devices left to worry about.

I was able to get online soon and deactivate all the eyecandy stuff to get at least an idea of performance.

New concepts, new eyecandy, new features – The ideas behind Vista are looking good but there are also things I do not understand like the ‘are you sure that you want to do an administrative thing’ question. In example – if I am trying to change the IP adress of the box I am sure that I want to do so.

But this is are only my first subjectiv impressions…

  • I have the same problem when I try Vista , MS have duplicated the answers of ‘are you sure?’ (maybe MS make sure that all your consumers are stupid), and… if you see… all the things are more complicated to see, for example, to change and IP in XP you need 2 steps, in Vista is 4 steps.

  • Well… Do you remember the quote by Linus Torvalds on gnome?

“This ‘users are idiots, and are confused by functionality’ mentality of Gnome is a disease. If you think your users are idiots, only idiots will use it.”

I would express it in a similar way on that confirmation messages…
