KDE 4 is already insight and should be arriving around October. I am watching the news about this desktop system since a while and liked the fresh look of the new iconset. As Icons do not need to be compiled nor linked I thought it would be easy integrating them into my current Desktop. Doing so is really easy:
First, change to the KDE Icon directory (i.e. /usr/kde/3.5/share/icons/). To get the new Icons we will be using Subversion for checking them out of the repository. We’re doing this via console:
svn co svn://anonsvn.kde.org/home/kde/trunk/KDE/kdelibs/pics/oxygen
As soon as the checkout is done, we can select the new icons via the usual control panels and there we go. If there are new things in subversion you can update your snapshot by changing into the new oxygen directory (in our example /usr/kde/3.5/share/icons/oxygen) for typing svn up there.
Lazhur says:
If you don’t want to motify global directories manual (this is what the package manager should do), you can start the checkout in $HOME/.kde/share/icons. Don’t expect to have a system with a perfect new appearance. The oxygen style isn’t available for kde 3.x and the ids for the icons changed a little bit.
So don’t be shocked to see a lot of crystal between the oxygen stuff.
Lazhur says:
The oxygen folder was moved. It can now be found under svn://anonsvn.kde.org/home/kde/trunk/KDE/kdebase/runtime/pics/oxygen/
Stargazer says:
Thanks for the update!
Konrad says:
und jetzt sitzen die icons in
svn://anonsvn.kde.org/home/kde/trunk/kdesupport/oxygen-icons/
Stargazer says:
Danke für’s Update!
Konrad says:
bitte ;).
