Virtual machines vs clock
Virtual machines and their clocks can be quite nasty – at least if I am working with them. Maybe it is because it is impossible to kick against virtual machines? Are they that nasty because they know they are safe?

If you return from traveling
Sometimes life sucks. Especially if it hurts: I was about to do a trip to Hamburg to see an old friend again. For keeping things simple I have decided to go by car which would grant me some more freedom.
But due to various things I was able do depart quite late in the evening. But that wasn’t the worst issue. Just as cruising along the highway a yellow light showed up stating a ‘general motor failure’. So I did a POI Search for the next garage.

cmake
I guess I can’t keep my hands off my gentoo box trying to test new things until stuff breaks. This might sound tragic, but if you’d ask me, it’s those things you learn most of as fix the things you have broken while trying to improve your box. It’s those things teaching you the implications of the whole system.

Offline hell
It is impressive to see, how we depend on working networks like the Internet nowadays. Sure, we often say that it isn’t a problem if we are offline. But such days can really piss you off.

Moving mails to different servers
Is it fate or simply bad karma that I’m always bothered with mailserver boxes? Or is it that they just cannot find anyone else crazy enough to even give it a try?
I’m not sure, but it’s me again, pushing mailboxes from one machine to another one. To make things right, I start doing things via imap and the good old toy ‘imapsync’, which just decided to discard about 90% of the messages showing the following error message:
flags from : [\Seen NonJunk]["02-Feb-2009 13:00:30 -0400"]
Error trying to append string: 58 NO APPEND Invalid flag list

“The server thinks the ICQ client you are using is too old”
Somehow AOL doesn’t brighten up my day. In fact, making me angry would describe it way better. As I am using Linux, I am trying to avoid proprietary software – that’s why you won’t find me that often using Skype. The Instant messenger of my choice would be Jabber, but as my contacts don’t use it, I have to use ICQ. My Client here is Kopete.
AOL now did a protocol bump for eliminating old clients, for pushing the ICQ6 protocol, regarding the error message and the Bugreport here.

Samba or libcap-2.06?
After wrecking my system by doing some updates, I was forced to use revdep-rebuild again. So I went to bed for letting the PC work as it wouldn’t need me for compiling. The next morning I woke up and went to the screen and noticed an error message. Samba bailed out:
