Enough joking
As the title says, I’m getting serious about my server boxes – no more software raid, no more running all that websites using the same user, no more kidding. As the new mailserver is already productive, the second IBM x345.
As already told in the post dealing with the new server, it was no big deal doing the setup as it’s good hardware. No quirks, no hacking – just straight forward.

am 21.1.2009 starb in hard ein über 40-jähriger motorradfahrer. eine entgegenkommende pkw-lenkerin hat ihn morgens um 5.30 uhr nicht gesehen und ist nach links abgebogen, genau in den fahrweg des motorradfahrers…
die pkw-lenkerin hat morgens um halb sechs ein beleuchtetes motorrad, welches ihr entgegen gekommen ist, nicht gesehen…

Manuals in PDF format

Manuals are one of the vital things of the IT field, the source of information about how to handle certain programs and problems. Surely they are not always top, but always better than nothing if you are able to read them. Sadly it got to be a common habit doing them in PDF format by now, which requires an external program for viewing – the Acrobat Reader, which does not automatically come with the operating system. Why the heck do they that to us?

Diese Geschichte bekam ich heut morgen von einem Freund per Mail zugesandt… eigentlich nichts besonderes, eine kleine Geschichte eben… aber irgendwie doch anders…
Diese Geschichte, nun, egal, ob real geschehen oder nur Fiktion, sie zeigt eines, das vielleicht für uns “Erwachsene” doch ein Denkanstoß von unseren Kindern kommen könnte, wir müßten es ihnen vielleicht nur ein bißchen vorleben…
…und als Ansatz, vielleicht auch einem oder mehreren Kindern ein Lächeln ins Gesicht zu zaubern, möchte ich in einem Zug an die Toy-Run 2009 in Wien, SCS, am 21. Juni 2009 und an den Joy-Ride am 6. Juni in Lustenau erinnern…

Mythos Goldwing

Die Goldwing ist ein Mythos. Die Goldwing ist ein Fabelwesen, ein Motorrad aus einer anderen Welt. Kein Motorrad, um das sich mehr Mythen ranken als eine Goldwing. Doch, was macht sie so besonders? Was ist dran an den Mythen?
Nun, eines gleich mal vorweg: Die Goldwing ist nicht unterkellert, weder die erste Serie mit dem 1000ccm-4-Zylinder-Boxer noch die aktuelle mit dem 1800ccm-6-Zylinder-Boxer. Und die 1100′er, die 1200′er und die 1500′er (die erste mit dem 6-Zylinder-Boxer) auch nicht…

Windows 7 Beta

I guess I was part of the crowd who took the Microsoft server down by downloading the new beta version of Windows 7.
Surely I am not the biggest Windows fan on earth – and never will be as I cannot use an operating system that eats my resources for graphical bling instead of providing them to the user. But anyways, a test on a virtual machine won’t harm.
