All Hallows’ Even? Halloween? Samhain?

I think it would be nice if we’d celebrate that old tradition here in the blogsphere: Putting out a light for inviting the good (readers) and a scary figure to keep the bad (spammer, bots and malware) away…
Update: As quite some people like the idea of ‘celebrating’ this event online, some folks joined:

Heute gibt’s was gratis: Codeweavers bietet deren CrossOver Office für 24h gratis an, da Bush mal wieder was geschafft hat, wo er wieder mal absolut nichts dafür kann…

Speeding up
“Don’t settle for ‘make boot faster.’ It’s the wrong question. The question is ‘make boot fast’.” – those are the words of two Intel developers rumbling the Linux scene: Arjan van de Ven and Auke Kok. Their idea is a quite uncommon attempt, disregarding the fact that Linus Torvalds dislikes it: They want to boot a whole system in a quite tiny and specified timeframe.

eBay blues
I guess you know the typical eBay ads on TV, showing happy people cheering about their purchase. But what about reality? Who talks about the people who missed an item or were overbid by some software tool, which is against the TOS of ebay. But I don’t want to destroy any illusions, do I?

Skype on the mobile phone
As my nokia phone is able to log into a wlan, I was thinking of some practical use of it. Sure, reading mails and backing up contacts is a practical application – but this is not the kick ass feature I’d use it for. A phone is for making phone calls. So why not using it as a VoIP handset for Skype? I wouldn’t even have to power up my PC then. But sadly, skype does not offer a Symbian version of their client. As I do not believe that there is no solution, I’m asking Google.

HeadlineAnimator
If I have to think back at the times I have started developing the HeadlineAnimator for having a fine signature at the discussion boards, I tend to look at the documentation I wrote those times as I cannot exactly remember all of the details by now.
But there’s one thing I know for sure: The code still works even though there were many changes in the wordpress releases up to now except for the API Code. In other words, the core functions I was using still work the same way they used to do. In other words: If you’re programming, stick to the proposed functions instead of hacking your own dirty little tricks if possible – that way you will be happy for a longer time with it.
